Made in 2018 as a private commission — two letters, cut and set by hand for one person, with no expectation that anyone outside her circle would ever see it.

It has since appeared on album covers, on red carpets and on stages around the world, and become the most recognisable thing we have ever made.

The letters are cut and set as objects in their own right, proportioned so the negative space inside each character reads as clearly as the metal around it. That is the whole design — there is nothing else on the band to look at, which is why it survives being worn every day for years.

Two characters is the limit, and the constraint is deliberate. Three crowd the finger and force the letterforms narrower than they want to be.
